SINCE the Russian military entered Ukraine, there have been six United Nations General Assembly resolutions about the ensuing war (ES-11/1 to ES-11/6). The voting record of the Global South countries, particularly the 54 African states, on these resolutions is notable. In only one resolution, which was about the referendum held in Donetsk, Kherson, Luhansk, and Zaporizhzhia oblasts (ES-11/4), did most African states (thirty of them) vote against Russia, with 24 states abstaining (none voted for the legality of the Russian referendum).

ISRAEL and Ben Gvir's police have just decided to shut the headquarters of the Communist Party in Haifa for ten hours starting at 19:00 this evening (August 26, 2024). 

Earlier, the police summoned Comrade Reem Hazan for the second time this afternoon and conducted an investigation with her and decided to close the party's headquarters in order to prevent the screening of Muhammad Bakri's new film "Janein Jenin" and the launching of an activity against the aggressive war on Gaza.

IT is almost as if the Israeli army is trying to gather as many Palestinians as possible in one place and then kill them all. Ahmed Abed and his family fled the Dalal al-Maghribi school in early August after an Israeli airstrike displaced them. That airstrike killed 15 Palestinians, who had taken refuge there after Israel had bombed their homes in the Shujaiyah neighbourhood of Gaza City. The family arrived in the al-Taba’een school, a private school with an attached mosque, that sheltered 2,500 people.
