A Successful Nationwide Strike to Save MGNREGA

ON May 15, 2026, all of rural India echoed with the voices of agricultural and rural workers demanding reinstatement of MGNREGA and roll back of VB-GRAM (G). Tens of lakhs of workers participated in the strike called by the joint platform of agricultural and rural workers’ unions and the NREGA Sangharsh Morcha. In thousands of villages, MGNREGA workers along with many agricultural and rural workers gathered together outside gram panchayats protesting and demonstrating and submitting a memorandum of their demands to the Panchayat Presidents.

Kharif MSP: Government Insensitive to Farmers’ Plight

The BJP-led Union Government has once again cheated the farmers of India by declaring a paltry increase in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for the Kharif season of 2026. AIAWU Rejects Central Government Notification for Implementation of VB-G RAM G

The Ministry of Rural Development has notified the implementation date for Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G). The notification is titled ‘Historic Commencement of VB-G RAM G.’ It is indeed historic in the way this act has been forcibly pushed through parliament and it is historic because it puts an end to the only nationwide demand drive scheme of guaranteed employment – the MGNREGA Act.

MGNREGA Workers in Distress: Deepening Crisis in Rural Employment

THE Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), India’s most significant rights-based rural employment programme, has long served as a lifeline for the rural poor. This law guarantees every rural household 100 days of statutory employment annually. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government has effectively dismantled MGNREGA, pushing the lives of rural workers into a vortex of uncertainty.
