Maharastra: Comrade Lahanu Kom

VETERAN leader of the CPI(M) and the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) in Maharashtra, Comrade Lahanu Shidva Kom, ex-MP and ex-MLA, passed away early this morning on May 28, 2025 after a brief illness. He was 86 years old. He leaves behind his wife Hemlata (also a Party and AIDWA leader), a son, a daughter, and three grandchildren.Lahanu Kom was born on November 10, 1938 in an adivasi poor peasant family of Aagwan village in Dahanu tehsil in Palghar district.

CPI(M) Condoles Com Tran Duc Luong

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its profound grief at the passing away of Tran Duc Luong, former Polit Bureau member of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and former President of Vietnam. He was born on May 5, 1937 and died on May 20, 2025 at the age of 88 years.Tran Duc Luong joined revolutionary activities in 1955 and joined the CPV in 1959. He served the Party and country in various capacities till he retired in 2008.

CITU Pays Homage to Veteran Trade Union Leader Comrade M M Lawrence

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), in a statement issued on September 21, paid homage to veteran trade union leader Comrade MM Lawrence, who passed away on September 21 at 12 pm in Kochi at the age of 95 due to age-related illness. The CITU extends its condolences to his family members and all comrades.Comrade MM Lawrence began his political activities at the age of 18, participating in the freedom struggle.

Comrade Kantimohan

COMRADE Kantimohan Sharma, one of the founding members of the editorial team of Loklahar and the Democratic Writers Association, passed away on July 14 at a hospital in Noida. Coincidentally, it was also his birthday. Since the night of July 13, he had been on a ventilator. Comrade Kantimohan had been ill for a long time, and with advancing age, heart disease and other illnesses had afflicted him. He was 88 years old.Kantimohan retired from the position of a reader at Satyawati College, Delhi University, in 1996.

Tripura: COMRADE SAMAR ADHYA

COMRADE Samar Adhya, a prominent leader of the state’s Left movement, former member of the CPI(M) Tripura state committee, and currently the cashier of the state committee of the Party, passed away on July 27, 2024, in a private hospital in Agartala. On July 24, he performed his normal duties throughout the day at the office. However, in the evening, he suffered a cerebral stroke at his residence. He was immediately taken to ILS Hospital, where doctors urgently performed brain surgery on him.

Comrade Samir Chakraborty

COMRADE Samir Chakraborty, a prominent communist leader, CPI(M) West Tripura district secretariat member, and former Tripura state committee member of the Party, breathed his last at dawn on July 18th at ISL Hospital, Agartala. He had been admitted to the hospital the previous day with multiple health issues, including chest pain. He was a chronic diabetic patient. He was 73 years old.

Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) is deeply pained to note the passing away of Comrade Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) on July 19 at the age of 80. Comrade Phu Trong breathed his last after a period of illness and old age.Comrade Phu Trong devoted his entire lifetime to the revolutionary cause, the country and the people. He was elected as the general secretary of the CPV for three terms and strove hard to build a strong party that plays its role in Doi Moi (national renewal), without severing from the path of socialism.

COMRADE PANDIT MUNDE

COMRADE Pandit Munde, a former member of the CPI(M) Maharashtra state committee, former secretary of the Aurangabad district committee, and founder-president of the CITU in Aurangabad, passed away at the age of 79 on May 28, 2024.Born in a poor peasant family in Beed district on June 12, 1945, he completed his graduation in commerce and in 1973 joined as a teacher at the Vasantrao Naik College in Aurangabad.
