Who’s Winning and Losing the Economic War Over Ukraine?

With the Ukraine war now reaching its one-year mark on February 24, the Russians have not achieved a military victory but neither has the West achieved its goals on the economic front. When Russia invaded Ukraine, the United States and its European allies vowed to impose crippling sanctions that would bring Russia to its knees and force it to withdraw.Western sanctions would erect a new Iron Curtain, hundreds of miles to the east of the old one, separating an isolated, defeated, bankrupt Russia from a reunited, triumphant and prosperous West.

We are in deep grief and very sorry to inform you that the destruction and damage caused by the earthquake seems quite massive. For brief information: The main earthquake of 7.7 magnitude occurred in the east of our country at 4:17.  Severe aftershocks continue. Some of them are even difficult to be called as aftershocks.

US Escalates the New Cold War in Asia

IN early February, the United States government announced that it would be exercising a 2014 agreement with the Philippines to set up new bases on Luzon Island, at the archipelago’s north. These bases will likely hold aircraft capable of striking targets in China, including around the vicinity of Taiwan. US defence secretary Lloyd Austin met with Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr., in Manila to discuss final elements of the agreement.

Devastating Earthquake: Diary of the Communist Party of Turkey

We are on the third day of the great disaster. Turkey has enough medical doctors, equipment, tents, fuel and planes, yet it can be clearly seen that there are immense delays or difficulties in the delivery of necessary humanitarian and material aid to the region, their arrival to the hands of the correct contact persons and establishing control in general. The observations of TKP member healthcare workers are proving this. There are no search and rescue operations in the south of Hatay Dörtyol.

AIPSO Statement

THE All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO), in a statement issued on February 7, expressed its deep grief to the people of Turkey and Syria who faced one of the severest earthquakes to strike that region. More than 3,000 people have died and many more are injured. Reports suggest that the death toll might rise as the rescue operations gather pace. The AIPSO urges the governments of Turkey and Syria to prioritise relief and rescue operations. It demands the US, NATO and other military forces active in the region to immediately cease their operations and withdraw at least now.

The Outrages against the People of Afghanistan

IN January 2023, three important leaders from the United Nations (UN) visited Afghanistan. Amina Mohammed, deputy secretary-general, Sima Bahous, director of UN Women, and Khaled Khairi, assistant secretary-general for the UN’s peacekeeping operations, spent four days in the country, meeting Taliban leaders in Kabul and Kandahar. The UN officials ‘conveyed the alarm over the recent decree banning women for national and international non-governmental organisations, a move that undermines the work of numerous organisations helping millions of vulnerable Afghans’.

Time to Resist, Struggle and Defeat Imperialism

WITHIN a week after the swearing in of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva as the president of Brazil, supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, who was defeated in the elections attacked the three wings of the government in Brazil. They tried to occupy the legislature, judiciary and executive buildings in Brasilia, the capital city. Timely intervention of the federal government nipped in bud their attempt to destabilise the democratically elected government of Lula. What had happened in Brazil is more or less a replica of what the supporters of Donald Trump tried to do on January 6, 2021 in Washington, US.

Israel – an Apartheid State – Deepens Its Oppression of the Palestinians

ON January 8, 2023, the Israeli government revoked the travel permit of Riyad al-Maliki. This act is not unusual, since Israel controls the movements of all Palestinians and routinely denies Palestinians the right to mobility, especially between the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Gaza, and the territories designated as Israel. The apartheid wall that snakes around the West Bank has a few gates where Palestinians stand in long, interminable queues where they experience terrible humiliation trying to go to work in Israel or trying to meet family members separated by the Israeli occupation.

AIPSO Condemns Attacks on Democracy in Brazil

THE All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation (AIPSO), in a statement issued on January 9, has condemned the right-wing attempts to destabilise the recently elected government of President Lula in Brazil. The far right-wing supporters of Jair Bolsonaro, who was defeated in the recently concluded presidential elections in Brazil, attempted to occupy the Congress, judiciary and executive buildings in Brazil.

The New Cold War Deepens in Africa Using Jihadism and Terrorism as the Excuse

IN late November, Boko Haram insurgents attacked a post at the Chad-Nigerian border, killing ten soldiers of Chad’s military. This attack is part of a broader jihadi push in the Lake Chad Basin, which comprises Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria. Founded in 2002, Boko Haram (‘Western civilisation is forbidden’) fought the Nigerian military for control over the country’s north so that its preachers could establish a dar al-Islam in the region.
