Assam has witnessed unprecedented floods. Tens of thousands have been displaced, more than 50 lakh people in over 4,000 villages have been affected. Widespread death of livestock has also been reported in the floods which have submerged more than 1.5 lakh hectares of farm lands in 30 districts.

The suffering of the people has been aggravated by the inadequacy of relief and rescue operations. Large parts of the affected districts remain submerged and inaccessible, leaving thousands stranded without adequate food, drinking water, healthcare and shelter. The BJP run State Government of Assam has abjectly failed in its duty of providing security to the lives and livelihoods of the people. The Union Government is displaying complete indifference to the people of Assam by not providing adequate assistance in this hour of need.

In order to augment the relief and rehabilitation efforts being carried out by the Party unit in Assam, the Polit Bureau appeals to the Party rank and file and its sympathisers to mobilise funds in a big way.
