LDF Far Ahead in Race, Opposition Resorts to Baseless Allegations

N S Sajith

THE Left Democratic Front faces the Kerala Assembly Elections with a high level of confidence and the glory of accolades for the state government’s achievements in the last ten years. The stunning facts of unparalleled growth and overall development are the focus of LDF’s election campaign. Polling is to be held on April 9.

Under the leadership of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, the leaders of the front have successfully enlightened the people of Kerala about a development model that balances high-end infrastructure with deep-rooted social welfare as well as a peaceful decade without a single incident of communal violence. The front is able to convince the people to compare the dark days of UDF rule in 2011-2016 which tarnished the state’s image with continuous communal violence, power cuts, unending corruption charges, closure of government schools, continuous failure in distribution of textbooks, poor quality of roads, weakening of public sector industries and traditional industries.

INFRASTRUCTURE

Mega infrastructure developmental projects implemented by the LDF government, utilising Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) to bypass traditional budget constraints and fund large-scale projects have become the symbol of development in constituencies across the state.

Vizhinjam International Seaport, a crown jewel of achievements, began commercial operations last year. By January 2026, it set records by handling over 1.2 lakh TEUs (containers) in a single month, positioning Kerala as a global transshipment hub.

National Highway 66 Expansion is another massive project to turn NH 66 into a 6-lane highway is nearing completion. The state government contributed 25 per cent of the land acquisition cost, a first for any Indian state.

Kochi Water Metro, India’s first integrated water transport system, has revolutionised urban mobility using eco-friendly electric boats.

LIFE Mission, a flagship housing project has successfully provided homes to over 5 lakh landless and homeless families.

DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION & IT

Kerala has branded itself as a "Knowledge Economy" through several pioneering steps. After declaring the internet a basic human right, the government launched K-FON (Kerala Fibre Optic Network) to provide high-speed internet to government offices and free/subsidised connections to BPL families.

In 2023, Kerala became the first state to digitize over 900 public services, significantly reducing corruption and bureaucratic delays.

Launched in February 2026, the policy aims to secure 10 per cent of India's IT exports and create 5 lakh new jobs by focusing on AI, space-tech and semiconductor missions.

Over 45,000 classrooms in government schools were made "Hi-Tech." This led to a historic trend where students shifted from private schools back to government schools.

UDF LIES

The message of these achievements are reverberating across the state. Apart from the Chief Minister, CPI(M) General Secretary M A Baby, politburo members A Vijayaraghavan, Ashok Dhawle, Vijoo Krishnan, Mariam Dhawle; senior leaders Prakash Karat, Brinda Karat and Subhashini Ali have been addressing massive gatherings of peoples.

Embarrassed by the rigorous campaign of LDF, the Congress led United Democratic Front (UDF) has resorted to baseless allegations. Even Rahul Gandhi, leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, alleged that CPI(M) and BJP established a clandestine understanding. LDF could expose this argument, citing the history of Congress-BJP deals and Congress leaders’ exodus to BJP. Following this, Congress leaders have shifted to pointing at an imaginary deal between CPI(M) and BJP.

Congress and other constituents of the opposition UDF thoroughly failed to counter the fact-based allegations of plundering over Rs. 120 crore collected by the people to construct houses for survivors of the landslide tragedy in Wayanad in 2024. When LDF leaders and media persons ask about the status of money and proposed construction, no one can answer and every leader of UDF turns pathetically clueless. At the same time the construction of a township for the landslide victims was almost finished by the government. This also gives the people a chance to compare the attitude of both fronts.
