Ideological Acrobatics of RSS and BJP

THE No.2 man in RSS, Dattatreya Hosabale, who many think will one day become the No.1 if the current sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat so desires, raised the issue of the insertion of ‘socialism’ and ‘secularism’ in the Preamble of the country’s Constitution during the Emergency. He argued that these words should be deleted. This seemed to be a signal because suddenly, there was a chorus of usual suspects shrilly supporting the demand.

Why is Trump Afraid of BRICS?

The 17th BRICS Summit was held in Rio de Janeiro on July 6-7, the first summit with the expanded membership of eleven countries. Soon after, US President Trump threatened to impose 10 per cent tariffs on those countries that align with BRICS. Earlier too, Trump had threatened 100 per cent tariffs on BRICS countries saying that they wish to destroy the supremacy of the US dollar and weaken America. Why is Trump so threatened and provoked by BRICS?BRICS originally comprised of five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

Full Statehood Demand Stands Further Justified

SIX years back, on August 5, 2019, the Modi government abrogated the special status of Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and Article 35 A. J&K was robbed of its right to statehood and divided into two union territories. The CPI(M) strongly opposed the unconstitutional, illegal and authoritarian moves. We said that it was not just an abrogation of the special status of a state, but an abrogation of democracy itself.

Foreign Policy in Shambles

THE infamy that the Modi government’s foreign policy has earned in the recent period, is something that cannot be understated. On June 13, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution moved by Spain calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire in Gaza. The resolution accused Israel of using “starvation of civilians as a method of warfare”. Of the 193 member states, 149 voted for the resolution, 12 opposed while 19 abstained.

RSS: Wielding Imperial, Fascist and Nazi Weapons

EVERY Indian has the freedom to live according to their religious beliefs. This is the foundation of the value of secularism enshrined in our Constitution. Simultaneously, it also means that religion should not interfere in governance. Yet, those who have taken the solemn oath of upholding the Constitution, are violating both of these principles. They are slowly and gradually implementing a project to transform India into a Hindu Rashtra. It is a plan that has been in the making for decades.

RSS Fangs Exposed

RECENT calls by the RSS leadership to remove the words socialism and secularism from the Preamble of the Indian Constitution are not just an attack on semantics – they represent a direct assault on the foundational vision of the Indian republic itself. The Constitution embodies the ideals and aspirations of India’s glorious anti-colonial freedom struggle. It reflects the values championed by the various movements that united to secure our independence.

WB: People’s Resistance Halts Prepaid Smart Meter Project

THE private sector-led prepaid smart metering project has been stalled in West Bengal. This marks a significant victory for the people’s movement in the state. For the first time in the past one and a half decades, the people of West Bengal were able to assert their own agenda in an organised manner and compel the TMC government to roll back its anti-people policy. It is, therefore, crucial to reflect on the content of the movement and the form in which it was carried out.

Privatising PSU Management

WITH the ulterior motive of aggressively pushing its reckless drive for privatisation of Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), the central government has devised a notorious scheme to appoint individuals from private corporate houses to the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of CPSEs.The selection of CMDs and functional Directors of CPSUs has usually been carried out by the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), which comprises one chairperson and three full-time members.

Big protest action against bribery, drugs and crime against women

THE CPI(M) in Tripura has organised a statewide protest movement on three key demands – dismissal of state minister Sudhangshu Das who admitted to accepting bribe from contractors and government suppliers, immediate identification and arrest of the drug-traffickers who transported two huge consignments of banned Eskuf cough syrup, and prompt action against the perpetrators of several recent dastardly...
