Joint Intervention of Left Parties on Workers’ Unrest in Delhi-NCR

A joint demonstration was organised today at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, by Left parties—Communist Party of India (Marxist), Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (ML), Revolutionary Socialist Party, Forward Bloc, and CGPI. A large number of workers and trade union leaders from Noida, Ghaziabad, and Delhi participated in the protest. On this occasion, a detailed memorandum was submitted to the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, and the Union Labour Minister, expressing deep concern over the growing workers’ unrest in the industrial areas of Delhi-NCR and the repression being carried out against them.

Addressing the gathering, senior CPI(M) leader Subhashini Ali said that widespread discontent prevails among workers in the industrial regions of Delhi-NCR—particularly in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram. The primary reasons include denial of minimum wages, expansion of contract labour, unsafe working conditions, and blatant violations of labour laws. She alleged that whenever workers organise around their legitimate demands—such as wage increases, regularisation, and better working conditions—state governments respond with repression, including police action, arrests, and curbs on union activities. She emphasised that workers’ legitimate demands cannot be suppressed by branding them as law-and-order issues.

Other speakers—Amarjeet Kaur (CPI), Shweta Raj (CPI-ML), R S Dagar (RSP), Chauhan (Forward Bloc), and Birju Nayak (CGPI)—strongly condemned the recent arrests of trade union activists in the Noida region and the use of force against peaceful protests. They termed it a direct attack on democratic rights.

The memorandum submitted by the Left parties raised the following key demands:

·        Immediate release of all arrested workers and trade union leaders

·        Withdrawal of false cases filed against workers

·        Strict enforcement of minimum wages and labour laws

·        Regulation of contract labour and guarantee of permanent employment

·        Ensuring accountability of the labour department in industrial areas

The Left parties demanded that the central government intervene immediately to resolve the issues faced by workers and put an end to repressive actions.

The speakers concluded by stating that if the legitimate demands of workers continue to be ignored, the Left parties will intensify and expand the movement further.
