Travesty of Justice
CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on July 31, 2025
CPI(M) expresses dismay and deep disappointment over the verdict in the Malegaon Blasts Case. The verdict coming after seventeen years of the incident has acquitted all the accused citing lack of evidence. The blasts had killed six innocent people and injured nearly hundred. It is a travesty of justice that the accused including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur, Lt Col Prasad Purohit, then a serving Army officer and others have been acquitted on the pretext of lack of evidence and procedural lapses.
Notably, it is reported that the National Investigation Agency sought commensurate punishment submitting that the conspirators orchestrated the crime to terrorise a section of the Muslim community, disrupt essential services, create communal tensions, and threaten the State's internal security. It is yet another case of undue delay and eventual denial of justice to the victims of the terrorist act by an extremist Hindutva group.
The accused were patronised and supported by the RSS-BJP all through. The BJP made Pragya Singh their candidate and got her elected as an MP. The verdict comes a day after the Home Minister Amit Shah made a statement in Parliament that no Hindu can be a terrorist.
In view of the serious nature of the crime, the CPI(M) demands the government to appeal the NIA Court’s decision.

Resist US Pressure
THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the statement by US President Donald Trump threatening to impose a 25 per cent tariff on Indian goods. He also wants India to downgrade its relations with Russia and stop buying oil from it. The Government of India must stand firm against such measures and safeguard the interests of the Indian people.
The US president has repeatedly threatened to impose tariffs unless India opens its agriculture, dairy, pharmaceutical, and other sectors to exploitation by US corporations. In order to appease the US government, the Indian government has already entered into defence and oil deals with the United States, agreeing to purchase arms and oil worth billions of dollars. Now, the US is demanding even more concessions.
The CPI(M) urges the Indian government not to succumb to US pressure or allow the Indian economy and markets to be opened to exploitation by the US, which would be detrimental to Indian industry and agriculture. The people of India expect the BJP-led government to assert its sovereignty and stand firm against US bullying tactics.

Denial of Permission to Left Delegation
THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the denial of permission to a delegation of leaders of the CPI(M), CPI and KC(M) by the Durg Jail administration to meet nuns arrested by the Chhattisgarh GRP on fabricated charges. This attempt to suppress transparency, accountability, and the rights of individuals is unjustifiable.
The delegation consisting of CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat and MPs K Radhakrishnan and A A Rahim; CPI leader Annie Raja and MP P P Suneer; and Kerala Congress (M) leader and MP Jose K Mani was refused permission to meet the arrested nuns today, on flimsy grounds, despite seeking written permission well in advance. It is only after a strong protest that they were granted permission to meet the nuns tomorrow.
The initial refusal to allow political leaders and elected representatives of the people to visit and assess the condition of those detained further underscores the state’s disturbing disregard for due process and human rights. Such actions are a direct affront to democratic principles, aimed to stifle inquiry and silence voices of dissent. It underscores the authoritarian character of the BJP-led governments at the centre and states.
The charges levelled against the nuns are without merit and constitute a gross violation of their fundamental rights. The arrest of the nuns is not an isolated incident, but part of a broader pattern of undermining religious freedom and harassing minority communities. There is a pattern in this arrest, done at the behest of the Bajrang Dal. The right to practice one’s faith freely and peacefully, as enshrined in our Constitution, must be protected at all costs.

Condemn Bombay High Court’s Anti-Constitutional Observations
THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) strongly condemns the observations of the Bombay High Court bench while rejecting an application by the Party to challenge the Mumbai Police’s refusal to allow a protest action against the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza.
While doing so, the court went to the extent of calling into question the patriotism of the Party. Ironically, the bench appears to be unaware of either the provisions of the Constitution which enshrines the rights of a political party, or the history of our country and our people’s solidarity with the Palestinians and their legitimate right to homeland. The observations smack of distinct political bias in line with the central government.
The bench has observed, “You don’t know the dust it could kick up. Getting on to the Palestine side or the Israel side. Why do you want to do this? It’s obvious, going by the party you represent that you don’t understand what this could do to the foreign affairs of the country.” The court further remarked, “You are an organisation registered in India. If you could take up issues like garbage dumping, pollution, sewerage, flooding. We are just giving examples. You are not protesting on those but on something happening thousands of miles outside the country.”
The observations overlook the fact that Mahatma Gandhi in the 40s of the last century, the national movement and subsequent foreign policy of independent India had not flinched from supporting the cause of Palestinian people’s right to freedom and homeland. It also lays bare the fact that the bench does not realise the unequivocal condemnation across the globe against Israeli action and the stated positions of the UN bodies and the International Court of Justice.
We appeal to the freedom and democracy loving people of the country to join us in unambiguously rejecting such a reprehensible attitude.
